BCMA Professional Development Committee – Terms of Reference

Approved January 19, 2018

 

1. Purpose

The Professional Development Committee is responsible for identifying and supporting professional training, peer networking, and educational opportunities for the BC museum community.

 

2. Role

The Professional Development Committee provides strategic guidance on training, peer networking, and educational program development to the BCMA including: online resources, the Digital Museums Program, annual conference, regional workshops and other educational opportunities.

 

3. Membership/Composition

Membership will be comprised of current BCMA members. The committee will be chaired or co-chaired by a Council member. The committee will be comprised of not less than four members and not more than nine.

 

4. Duties and Responsibilities  

Specific priorities include:

  • Development of an Educational Strategy in conjunction with the office, for the BCMA, for 2018-2019
  • Liaising with Conference Committee on themes and program content, ongoing
  • Advising on Digital Museums Program, ongoing
  • Advise on Liaising with educational institutions and funding organizations on other professional development opportunities, ongoing
  • Developing opportunities to build professional community, ongoing
  • Guidance on Webinars, mentorship, Facebook
  • Liaison with Indigenous Advisory Committee

 

5. Meeting Frequency  

Every 6 weeks before council meeting, primarily conducted via conference call.

Roundup Editorial Committee – Terms of Reference

The Editorial Committee is a subcommittee of the Professional Development Committee and is responsible for advising the Editor of the Roundup including:

  • suggesting content, this may also include, if appropriate, making pitches to contacts or providing introductions
  • reviewing a proposed table of content for each issue of the Roundup (four/year) and make suggestions to fill gaps
  • participating in an annual planning session to set themes for each of the four issues
  • helping with development of policy if necessary

The Editorial Committee will meet via conference calls four times per year and in person at the annual BCMA conference once a year with additional communications via email.

The Committee shall be comprised of BC Museums Association members (individual or institutional) of good standing from across the province. The Roundup Editor or editorial team is included in this committee.
