The BC Museums Association is excited to announce the launch of BC Museums Week 2017!
Join the BCMA and museums from around BC as we celebrate and highlight the work of our members, discuss important themes for the sector, and work together to build a stronger future.
The Province of British Columbia has proclaimed that May 14-21, 2017 shall be known as “BC Museums Week,” recognizing, among other things, “the importance of museums, art galleries, historic sites, cultural centres and other memory institutions as keepers of legacy, places of learning, and drivers for the economic and social well-being of our communities.”
BC Museums Week is perfectly situated in the international museum calendar as it includes International Museum Day (IMD), an ICOM-sanctioned celebration now in its 40th year that takes place annually on May 18.
Join the BCMA and museums around the province in celebrating BC Museums Week 2017 through a variety of social media discussions, and consider planning your own museum celebration event.
BC museums are invited to plan any form of event, activity, program, open day, promotion, media event, etc. that they can accommodate and afford that celebrates and raises awareness of their museum and museums around the province. See the BC Museums Week Resources page for ideas and resources for planning events.
The BCMA also encourages BC museums to join the themed daily discussions on social media using #BCMuseums. See all themes and learn how to contribute on the BC Museums Week Schedule page.
