The BCMA is proud to announce the eighth professional development webinar in our monthly webinar series!
Join colleagues from around the province and across Canada on November 21 for “Digital Design on a Dime” presented by Ryan Meech.
Digital, interactive displays can bring to life some of the most important stories your institution needs to tell, and just as importantly, they can be useful for attracting & engaging younger visitors and families. When money is no object, there is no shortage of production houses in BC and beyond, that can produce excellent work. But smaller institutions with bigger budget challenges can’t necessarily afford those services, or the expensive hardware needed to display such projects.
Digital exhibit producer Ryan Meech will explain some ways that institutions of almost any size can produce quality, innovative digital exhibits more affordably. The session will cover some of the basics of designing digital museum pieces, the types of projects that can be produced most cost-effectively, how to find the partners and talent needed to bring the projects to reality at a reasonable cost, and realistic expectations when introducing more digital interactivity to your institution.
Ryan holds a master’s degree from the Centre for Digital Media in Vancouver, where he now lives. He has several projects on display at Vancouver Maritime Museum, and is currently working with the Maritime Museum of British Columbia, producing several interactive displays for an exhibition honouring the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Canadian Pacific Railway vessel SS Princess Sophia. Ryan believes strongly that digital museum pieces can be very powerful, but need be no more flashy or expensive than is required to make kids go absolutely bananas.
