The 2017 BCMA Awards for Outstanding Achievement were handed out on Thursday October 5 at the BCMA Conference Gala at the Inn at Laurel Point, Victoria.  A staple event of our annual conference, the presentation of the Awards for Outstanding Achievement saw museums and galleries from across the province recognized.  Awards committee co-chairs Jill Baird and Hanna Cho made the presentations in front of a crowd of more than 150 delegates and some special guests.

A full house for our 60th Anniversary Gala and BCMA Awards for Outstanding Achievement presentation!

BCMA Awards Committee co-chairs Hanna Cho (NGX Interactive, left) and Jill Baird (UBC Museum of Anthropology, right) presented the awards and commented on the many worthy nominations this year.

The Honourable Judith Guichon, OBC, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia addressed the Gala crowd and made remarks about how much she has learned about BC’s museum community since taking her post.

Distinguished Service Award: Gary Mitchell (BC Archives, retired). Upon receiving his award, the Provincial Archivist Emeritus offered comments about how collaboration among museums and the development of the next wave of museum professionals are the keys to success for the sector.
