Project: Museum log restoration
Funding Received: $11,000
The Fort Nelson Heritage Museum is in a highly visible location on the Alaska Highway directly across from the community Recreation Centre. The log building that houses the museum required cleaning and re-staining and the completed work has created a more attractive view for passers-by and a morale boost for local residents.
Fort Nelson Museum “before”
Fort Nelson Museum “after”
The community has been struggling significantly with an economic downturn. Many people are out of work and families are being separated as they move in search of employment. This project provided a significant amount of work to a local contracting company which provided the expertise to properly clean the logs and in turn provided mentorship and work experience to a young Museum employee who completed the re-staining.
