Welcome to “OWL You Need to Know” a new micro-podcast series from the BC Museums Association. In this podcast, BCMA members are given 90 seconds to answer 20 questions about themselves. If you’d like to give a 90-second interview, contact the BCMA. In our first episode of this new series, we interview Lorenda Calvert, the BCMA’s new Program Coordinator.

In addition to the OWL You Need to Know interview, Lorenda has written a blog post she’d like to share with the BCMA community:

Hi, I’d like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Lorenda Calvert and I am the new Programs Coordinator for the BC Museums Association. Previously I was the Education and Public Program Coordinator for the Burnaby Village Museum. Before that, I had the pleasure of working for the Richmond Museum and the Museum of Surrey. You might recognize me for my work with the Lower Mainland Museum Educators.

I hold a Bachelors of Arts and a Masters of Museum Education from the University of British Columbia and count myself lucky to be working in my chosen field and to find my work so fulfilling. I enjoy creating engaging educational experiences for learners of all ages. In my role at the Burnaby Village Museum, I oversaw exciting projects such as the Indigenous Week of Learning and a curriculum overhaul of their school programs.

Outside of work, I sit on the Lower Mainland Museum Educators Executive Board and am Chair of the LMME Conference planning committee. I enjoy fostering peer to peer connections and advocating for professional development within our field. Shaping the LMME conference has been extremely rewarding and every year, at the conference, I am overcome with joy for the
work we get to do. In my free time, I enjoy volunteering, walking my dog, seeing movies, and hosting a monthly
cookbook club. I look forward to connecting with you in my new role and please do not hesitate to reach out.

You can email me at programs@museumsassn.bc.ca – I’d love to hear from you!
