The BCMA works closely with related organizations in the GLAM, Heritage, and Tourism sectors. We are pleased to partner officially with many of these organizations, as well as working closely with organizations serving our members.
The BCMA signed a GLAM Sector Memorandum of Understanding in March 2017 creating an official partnership with the BC Library Association and the Archives Association of BC. This MOU will remain in place for a period of three years, effective January 1, 2017. The partnership will encourage member participation in activities that will enhance learning opportunities and knowledge transfer among professionals and institutions across the Gallery, Library, Archives, and Museum sector (such as access to member rates for each organization’s conference).
In 2016-17, the BCMA partnered with Heritage BC to administer the British Columbia | Canada 150: Celebrating B.C. Communities and their Contributions to Canada grant. The two organizations have worked closely in the past and continue to work collaboratively to provide support, advocacy, resources, professional development, and funding for heritage organizations.
The BCMA is a member organization within the Canadian Museums Association, the national organization for the advancement of the Canadian museum sector, representing Canadian museum professionals both within Canada and internationally. The BCMA and CMA have worked together for nearly 60 years to support and advocate for museums in BC. The CMA also works with the other provincial museums associations.
In 2000 and 2003, the BCMA partnered with the Oklahoma-based Western Museums Association, a non-profit membership organization primarily comprised of members across the Western states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington, the Western provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, and the Pacific Islands, among others. Joint conferences were hosted in Victoria in 2000, and again in Reno, NV in 2003, the only time a BCMA conference has been held outside of BC.
Lower Mainland Museum Educators – an informal group of community-based educators from the Lower Mainland of British Columbia who meet regularly to network, share experiences, learn about new ideas and discuss issues related to our field.
BC Historical Federation – The BCHF and the BCMA have many intersecting areas of mutual interest, and many shared members. The BCMA has been honoured to present at and be involved with BCHF conferences in the past.
